Episode 22 recap: Yun Chao Yan used himself as bait to lure the Hanying (Cold Shadow) to appear.

After Ren Shi Que left, Xiao Gui Gui was left alone guarding the Jiepo Lamp, worrying about Ren Shi Que and Yun Chao Yan. Suddenly, she heard a strange noise outside and hurriedly went to check. After Xiao Gui Gui left, a black mist suddenly rushed into the room, heading straight for the Jiepo Lamp. When Xiao Gui Gui returned, she saw the broken Jiepo Lamp and realized they had fallen for the enemy's trap.

Ren Shi Que asked Yun Chao Yan if he wanted to know what was in Ren Shi Que's heart. After Yun Chao Yan nodded, Ren Shi Que took him back to the Wishing Pool, where Yun Chao Yan saw the scene of himself praying before, realizing that he had already found a place in Ren Shi Que's heart.

As they were talking, a black mist suddenly appeared at the Wishing Pool. Ren Shi Que sensed that the people of Qingzhou might be in danger, so he decided to take Yun Chao Yan back. Before leaving, Ren Shi Que went to see the Emperor, who told him that the Hanying was the Emperor's shadow, a mere ethereal being. The Hanying had tried to eliminate Ren Shi Que because of his ability to see into people's hearts, and it was now targeting Yun Chao Yan for the same reason.

After returning from the Emperor, Ren Shi Que told Yun Chao Yan about the Hanying's true nature. He also told Yun Chao Yan that he had to erase her memories of the time in the Palace of Cold Splendor, as the secrets of the Heavenly Court could not be revealed. Yun Chao Yan couldn't help but think that Ren Shi Que was being too stingy.

Yun Chao Yan had a dream where she was happily calling out to her parents. Ren Shi Que suddenly woke her up, and when she opened her eyes, Gu Qing was standing there, holding her hand and asking where she had been these past few days. Yun Chao Yan looked at Ren Shi Que in confusion, as she had no memory of the recent events.

Gui Gui came over with a gloomy expression and told Ren Shi Que that the Jiepo lantern had been broken. Seeing that Ren Shi Que did not blame him, Gui Gui finally felt relieved. He then told Ren Shi Que about the strange celestial phenomena in Qingzhou City - a blood-red cloud had appeared in the sky, and the moon had been "eaten" by a celestial wolf, plunging the city into darkness as if the end of the world had arrived.

Ren Shi Que glanced at Xie Gui Chen and told the group that they would need everyone's joint effort to resolve these issues. Xie Gui Chen understood Ren Shi Que's meaning. Earlier, Ren Shi Que had told Xie Gui Chen that his master was likely Hanying. Xie Gui Chen immediately told Ren Shi Que that even though his master had shown him kindness, he could not allow his master to harm the people of Qingzhou. He felt it was time to settle the score between them.

Xie Gui Chen brought a conical weapon to Ren Shi Que, saying it was left by his master at the Moon God Temple. Ren Shi Que was surprised to discover that the weapon was forged by the Imperial Sovereign himself. The group prepared to confront the invading enemy, but Hanying had disappeared without a trace. Xie Gui Chen wanted to suggest using Yun Chao Yan to lure out his master, but Ren Shi Que stopped him, saying he could not let Yun Chao Yan take such a risk.

Yun Chao Yan wrote a letter for Xie Gui Chen to deliver to Gu Qing, saying it was a private matter for women and asked him not to peek. Gu Qing followed Yun Chao Yan's instructions and had his brother meet Ren Shi Que outside the city. Ren Shi Que realized Yun Chao Yan was using him to lure out Hanying. As Yun Chao Yan and Gu Qing waited at the Defender's Office, Hanying appeared and easily knocked out Gu Qing. He then tried to take Yun Chao Yan's eyes, but Ren Shi Que suddenly arrived and the two began fighting. Realizing he was no match for Ren Shi Que, Hanying summoned a group of rebellious immortals from the Jiepo lantern to aid him, causing the situation to take a drastic turn.
