Episode 2 recap: Yun Chao Yan helped Lin Nian resolve her inner turmoil.
Yun Chao Yan brought up to Ren Shi Que that ten years ago, the Goddess of the Moon granted her wish and restored her sight. However, she was able to see things that others could not - people marked by the moon's imprint, with frightening and elusive appearances. Although they could not speak, they constantly pestered her, leaving her unsettled. She wanted to return the eyes to the Goddess of the Moon, and Yun Chao Yan asked if he was the emissary who originally gave her the eyes.
Ren Shi Que did not admit to it. Yun Chao Yan wanted to stay by his side so that the demonic cultivators would not dare to bother her, but Ren Shi Que said Yun Chao Yan's behavior was absurd and full of lies, and told her to leave quickly, advising her to mind her own business if she wanted to live peacefully.
After Yun Chao Yan left, a demonic cultivator named Lin Nian wanted to meet her, as Lin Nian's abandoned mother was Lady Lu. Yun Chao Yan passed the handkerchief to Xiao Gui Gui, asking him to help arrange a meeting between Lin Nian and Lady Lu. Yun Chao Yan picked up the handkerchief and returned it to Lin Nian, telling him not to bother her anymore. Deputy Censor Xie Gui Chen, after a long journey, arrived to take up his post, but Ren Shi Que claimed illness to avoid meeting him. Xiao Gui Gui noticed through Xie Gui Chen's demeanor that he was no ordinary person, and warned Ren Shi Que not to take him lightly.
Xie Gui Chen went to the forest and reported to his master that he would closely monitor everything in the Censor's mansion. After leaving his master, he came to the villa where Yun Chao Yan lived, and there he happened to meet Yun Chao Yan. Knowing this was Yun Chao Yan's old home, he gave her a painting he had found.

Standing by the cleared coreopsis flower patch, the old Madam Lu couldn't help but shed tears as she recalled the child she had abandoned years ago. Yun Chao Yan handed the handkerchief to Madam Lu and told her that an old friend with a crescent-shaped birthmark on his face wanted to see her.
Madam Lu found this strange, so Yun Chao Yan explained that the child she had abandoned had died because the village he lived in was plagued by an epidemic, and the villagers believed the epidemic was caused by his birthmark, so they drowned him. Now he hoped to see his mother by the lake. Hearing this, Madam Lu took the handkerchief and went to the lake, and Lu Qingchi also rushed over upon learning of the situation.
At the lake, Madam Lu finally realized that the coreopsis flowers in the courtyard were planted by Lin Nian to alleviate her longing for him. After learning the truth, Lin Nian returned to the Soul-Returning Lamp, satisfied. Lu Qingchi realized that his mother did not dislike him, and the mother-son relationship was restored. Yun Chao Yan noticed someone he had a grudge against near Ren Shique, so he decided to stay and help Ren Shique.
That night, Ren Shique came to find Yun Chao Yan because of the day's events, and they got into another argument and had physical contact. Under the moonlight, Ren Shique suddenly regained his sight.
