Episode 10 recap: Xie Gui Chen was caught arranging a ghostly marriage.

Xie Gui Chen saw Yun Chao Yan's disheveled hair and was about to reach out to help her tidy it, but upon hearing Yun Chao Yan's scream, he thought he had startled her with his clumsiness. Yun Chao Yan, fearing he had misunderstood, quickly said she was just feeling too hot.Gu Qing, who was hiding nearby, heard that Yun Chao Yan wanted some cold tea, so he had the maid buy up all the cold tea, leaving Xie Gui Chen no choice but to go far away to buy some. After Yun Chao Yan left, someone threw a note to Xie Gui Chen. Upon reading the note's contents, Xie Gui Chen went to meet his master in the forest and reported that he had not detected anything unusual about Yun Chao Yan. Hearing this report, which was quite different from before, the master reminded him not to let his emotions sway him.

After parting ways with the master, Gu Qing suddenly appeared before Xie Gui Chen and interrogated him about who he was in contact with. Xie Gui Chen then realized that Gu Qing had been tracking him, so he evasively said he was helping someone investigate a private matter. Gu Qing, thinking Xie Gui Chen was investigating Yun Chao Yan, was reassured and promised to keep it secret.

When Yun Chao Yan returned to the Grand Supervisor's residence, Ren Shi Que asked her jealously about her outing to view the lanterns that night. After Ren Shi Que left, just as Yun Chao Yan was about to extinguish the light and go to sleep, a ghost suddenly appeared before her. Yun Chao Yan knew the ghost had come to seek her help, so she sat up wrapped in her blanket and half-listened as the ghost, named Lan Gu, told her the story of herself and her lover Jing Yao.

The next day, Yun Chao Yan told Ren Shi Que about Lan Gu's plight. Ren Shi Que was also strongly opposed to the abhorrent practice of arranging ghostly marriages. He went to the Jia household, but the Jia matriarch vehemently denied everything, and without evidence, Ren Shi Que could do nothing.

After Ren Shi Que left, Lan Gu showed the Jia matriarch a jade pendant and a red thread, telling her that everything had been arranged - all that remained was to throw the jade pendant away, and the man who found it would be Lan Gu's intended.

Two people were talking, when suddenly Jing Yao, the lover of Wan Wan, came to the door seeking an audience. Jing Yao explained his purpose to Madam Jia - he had promised to marry Wan Wan, and now that his sentence was complete, he had come to fulfill that promise. Madam Jia told Jing Yao that Wan Wan had passed away three years prior, but he refused to believe her and demanded to see Wan Wan. The old woman then had him locked in the woodshed.

Wan Wan had told Yun Chao Yan about the red thread betrothal, and informed her of the location of the jade pendant. When Yun Chao Yan went to retrieve it, she found that the pendant had been taken by Xie Gui Chen. Yun Chao Yan hurried to chase after him.

Yun Chao Yan was unable to catch up to Xie Gui Chen. Worried for his safety, she sought help from Ren Shi Que, but he felt there was no solid evidence to intervene. Gu Qing, having not seen Xie Gui Chen for days, came to the Censorate to borrow men to search, as the maid Gui Gui would not tell her Xie Gui Chen's whereabouts.

To rescue Xie Gui Chen, Yun Chao Yan went to the Jia residence alone, hoping Madam Jia would release him, explaining it was Wan Wan's wish for the two to be together. But Madam Jia mistook Yun Chao Yan for a go-between for Jing Yao, and had her locked in the woodshed as well, where Xie Gui Chen was also imprisoned, unconscious.

Yun Chao Yan found a scythe in the woodshed and freed herself and Xie Gui Chen. Knowing the betrothal ritual had begun, she decided to first disrupt the Lan Gu's spell. In an unfamiliar room, a red veil fell over Yun Chao Yan's head - and to her delight, the man who lifted it was Xie Gui Chen, dressed as the groom.
