Episode 16 recap: Yun Chao Yan helps Bi Luo search for her boyfriend.
Seeing the woman in front of her, Yun Chao Yan asked her what she was doing in the Righteous Manor, but the woman did not respond. Seeing that it was already late, Yun Chao Yan thought she wanted to stay the night, so she let her stay in the manor. In the middle of the night, Yun Chao Yan woke up from her dream and was surprised to find the woman sitting next to her, staring at her with wide eyes.
Yun Chao Yan was wide awake, so she sat up and asked the woman why she was not sleeping and what she was doing in her room. But the woman still did not speak. Yun Chao Yan then realized that the woman was also an Inverse Immortal, so she tried to communicate with her.
The Inverse Immortal, whose name was Bi Luo, told Yun Chao Yan that 20 years ago, she was the top courtesan at the Yihongyuan, and she was not only beautiful but also skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. One day, while she was playing the guqin, a young gentleman who was playing the xiao came in, and their music blended beautifully. But afterwards, she lost track of that gentleman, so she wanted Yun Chao Yan to help her find him.
Meanwhile, in a brothel in the city of Shengjing, a middle-aged man with a very unkempt beard was being mocked by some young gentlemen. The people there called him the "Drunken Gentleman" because he often came to the brothel. When he was drunk, he would suddenly hug a man, saying he missed him greatly, and the madam would hurry to pull him away.
After hearing Bi Luo's story, Yun Chao Yan decided to find Ren Shi Que and ask him to paint a portrait of the gentleman, so that they could try to identify him. Ren Shi Que felt like something was missing without Yun Chao Yan around, and Xiao Guigui reminded him that he should not pursue Yun Chao Yan anymore. Ren Shi Que remembered the bet he had made with Yun Chao Yan that day, so he placed the hairpin under a large tree near the flowers. But when Yun Chao Yan came, she did not see the hairpin, and Ren Shi Que felt a sense of disappointment. Previously, it was Yun Chao Yan who always sought his embrace, and he had avoided her, but now that she no longer clung to him, he felt unsettled.
Xiao Gui Gui handed in her resignation letter to Ren Shi Que. Seeing Yun Chao Yan's resignation letter, Ren Shi Que became even more anxious. Just then, Xie Gui Chen suddenly came in, saying that Yun Chao Yan might be in danger, and asked Ren Shi Que to protect her.
