Episode 14 recap: Yun Chao Yan expressed her love to Ren Shi Que.
Lan Gu's two accomplices were hired to go to the south suburbs, where they kidnapped Yun Chao Yan to the Moon Temple. Fortunately, Ren Shi Que arrived in time, subdued them, and rescued Yun Chao Yan. After returning from the south suburbs, Ren Shi Que took Yun Chao Yan to the Yizhuang, where he saw that her hand was injured and felt very concerned.
Remembering what Ano had said, Yun Chao Yan reached out and held Ren Shi Que's hand, expressing her affection. However, Ren Shi Que told her reluctantly that humans and deities cannot be together. Yun Chao Yan had thought that Ren Shi Que keeping her at the Yushifang meant he had accepted her, but she realized she had misunderstood. Although she had the eyes of the Moon Goddess, she was still just a mortal.
Ren Shi Que reminded Yun Chao Yan to tend to her wound and then turned to leave. Yun Chao Yan was deeply hurt by Ren Shi Que's rejection. Ren Shi Que also sat sadly on a tree, and Gu Qiang asked the Grand Censor Xie Gui Chen about his whereabouts, feeling that Xie Gui Chen was the one who had made Gu Qiang lose his appetite and become thin, and wanted to settle the score with him. Ren Shi Que thought Gu Qiang was arrogant and overbearing, and should stop bothering the Yushifang.
Xie Gui Chen went to the forest to question his master, asking why he had hired bandits to kidnap Yun Chao Yan, and begging him not to harm her. But the master believed that everyone was a pawn, with no innocents, and told Xie Gui Chen to suppress his compassion and not forget the master's nurturing.
Xie Gui Chen felt that the orphaned Yun Chao Yan had a kind heart, and hoped the master would spare her and Ren Shi Que if he wanted to kill them. After leaving the master, Xie Gui Chen went to the Yizhuang and saw Yun Chao Yan, feeling guilty, so he gave her a small ball to break in case of danger, promising to rush to save her.
The next morning, Ano came to find Yun Chao Yan, and she asked why he had abandoned her. Ano said the bandits resembled the bad people he had seen before, and Yun Chao Yan forgave him. Returning to the Yizhuang, Yun Chao Yan told Longpo about Ano, and Longpo felt the name sounded familiar.
The door suddenly let out a gong-like sound, and the old woman quickly covered her ears and hid away, just as Anol had been frightened before. The Dragon Lady said this was a childhood habit, as the adults had told her that whenever there was a gong sound, bad people were coming, and she must hide.
Yun Chao Yan returned to the Surveillance Bureau and saw Ren Shi Que running away. Yun Chao Yan wanted to keep his distance from Ren Shi Que so as not to lose him as a protective talisman. Upon returning to his room, Yun Chao Yan scolded Anol for encouraging him to confess his feelings to Ren Shi Que, and now they had to keep their distance. Shortly after Yun Chao Yan left, the Dragon Lady fainted, prompting Yun Chao Yan to hurry back to the courtyard to attend to her.
Gu Qing came to the Surveillance Bureau wielding a whip, intent on settling the score with Ren Shi Que. Seeing Gu Qing's arrogant and overbearing manner, Dao Huang used his magic to trip her up. When Xie Gui Chen tried to help Gu Qing, Dao Huang cast another spell, causing Xie Gui Chen to fall as well. Gu Qing went to pull Xie Gui Chen up, but ended up falling on top of him. Their eyes met, and Gu Qing gave Xie Gui Chen a kiss before awkwardly running off, leaving her whip behind at the Surveillance Bureau, intending to retrieve it the next day.
The doctor said the Dragon Lady was at death's door. She had one final wish - for Yun Chao Yan to bury her next to the Moon Deity Temple, where she could wait for her brother Anol. Yun Chao Yan went to find Anol, but couldn't locate him. Ren Shi Que used his magic to lift Yun Chao Yan to a high vantage point, allowing him to finally find Anol.
Yun Chao Yan brought Anol to the Dragon Lady's bedside. The two reminisced about the childhood nursery rhymes they used to sing. Anol placed his rattle drum by the Dragon Lady's bed. Anol had finally found his sister, fulfilling her wish, and ascended as a beam of light into the Soul Lamp. Ren Shi Que felt the Soul Lamp was nearly complete, and his time to leave was approaching. Xiao Guigui told Ren Shi Que that the Dragon Lady had passed away, and Yun Chao Yan, considering her his only family, must be greatly saddened.
