Episode 19 recap: Xie Gui Chen once again rejected Gu Qing.
Ren Shi Que was having a heartfelt conversation with Yun Chao Yan, when Xiao Gui Gui suddenly asked him about the situation with Yun Chao Yan. Ren Shi Que looked at Xiao Gui Gui puzzledly, not understanding how he knew. Xiao Gui Gui rolled his eyes and told Ren Shi Que that his thoughts were so loud, he might as well have used a megaphone to broadcast them. Seeing that Xiao Gui Gui already knew, Ren Shi Que no longer hid anything.
Xiao Gui Gui saw that Ren Shi Que seemed happy, so he no longer interfered. After that, Ren Shi Que and Yun Chao Yan spent every day together, going shopping and strolling in the park. Ren Shi Que held Yun Chao Yan's hand, and whenever she encountered even the slightest bit of danger, he would become anxious and take on a protective stance. When the people around them started to point and stare, Yun Chao Yan softly reminded Ren Shi Que to keep some distance between them, and he would then take her to a less crowded place.
Seeing people releasing lanterns and praying to the Moon Goddess for protection, Yun Chao Yan bought two lanterns and went to the riverside with Ren Shi Que. Ren Shi Que found it amusing that he, the mighty Moon God, would need to release lanterns to pray for his own wishes. But Yun Chao Yan didn't see it that way - she believed Ren Shi Que must have his own wishes he wanted to fulfill.
Ren Shi Que told Yun Chao Yan that many people's wishes were unrealistic, as the effort required was far from what they hoped to achieve. But he said there was one girl's wish that left a deep impression on him - her wish was simply to see her mother for a moment. Yun Chao Yan realized that the girl Ren Shi Que was referring to was her, and she finally understood why he had given her his own eyes.
After releasing the lanterns, the two lovingly exchanged words of affection. Ren Shi Que seized the opportunity to try to kiss Yun Chao Yan, but she suddenly shouted that lanterns couldn't be released there, disrupting the romantic atmosphere. It turned out Yun Chao Yan had discovered a couple releasing lanterns at a broken bridge, and the local legend said that doing so meant the two were about to part ways.
Gu Qing approached Xie Gui Chen again, not wanting to let the good times go to waste, and hoping Xie Gui Chen would marry her. Xie Gui Chen agreed to give her an answer in a few days. As Gu Qing left, she purposefully left her whip behind with Xie Gui Chen.
Xie Gui Chen's subordinates, Xu Xian and Bei Wu, recognized the whip as belonging to the princess. Bei Wu wanted to return it to the princess, but Xu Xian winked at him, telling him not to overstep.
To prevent any harm from coming to Yun Chao Yan, Xie Gui Chen had Xu Xian and the Northern Army conduct a thorough census of the temporary residents in Qingzhou. During the investigation, they discovered a man named Han Lu.
Han Lu had only recently arrived in Qingzhou and was currently staying as a guest at the Prefect's Mansion. Xie Gui Chen planned to visit the Prefect's Mansion to inquire about this man's background. As for Gu Qing's confession, after some thought, he decided to reject it, as he was still in a dangerous situation and did not want to involve her. Gu Qing grew impatient waiting at home and wanted to bring the betrothal gifts to find Xie Gui Chen, but the maid advised her to be more restrained and not act too hastily.
Ren Shi Que took Yun Chao Yan on a tour of the city, and after that invited her to a grand feast. As Yun Chao Yan was indulging herself, Kui Ji suddenly appeared. Knowing that Kui Ji was concerned about the trouble Yun Chao Yan might bring to Ren Shi Que, she moved away from Ren Shi Que to explain the situation.
While Yun Chao Yan was explaining, Han Lu suddenly appeared nearby. Seeing Han Lu, Kui Ji immediately vanished without a trace. Yun Chao Yan was puzzled, and Han Lu approached her, asking if she had seen anything. Yun Chao Yan denied it, but Han Lu seemed to already know everything about Yun Chao Yan and pressed her further, causing Yun Chao Yan to back away in fear. Ren Shi Que then suddenly appeared, standing in front of Yun Chao Yan, forcing Han Lu to leave.
In the middle of the night, Han Lu came to Yun Chao Yan's residence, but found that Ren Shi Que had set up a talisman, preventing him from entering. Frustrated, Han Lu cursed, "This accursed hindrance, I must not let him return to the heavens." After saying this, he looked up at the moon and coldly added, "When the moon is full, it will also be the time of the collapse of faith."
Ren Shi Que and Xiao Gui Gui were standing at the bow of a boat, discussing the matter of Han Lu, when a sudden gust of cold wind swept through, causing the boat to rock violently.
