Episode 1 recap: Huang Zhen Hua came to the rescue of Huang Yi Mei.
On July 13, 2001, the 112th session of the International Olympic Committee was to be held in Moscow, while the story took place in Beijing. Zhou Shihui and his girlfriend Zhizhi went to the civil affairs bureau to get married, and their friends waited at the door to celebrate for them. After a long wait, Zhou Shihui and Zhizhi did not come out, and their friend Huang Zhen Hua had a bad feeling. On his way to the civil affairs bureau with them, Zhou Shihui kept muttering a phrase that seemed to be about love, but also not about love.
Sure enough, Zhou Shihui changed his mind when he was registering the marriage, and Zhizhi angrily hit him. After learning about the situation, Zhizhi's friends stood up for her and beat up Zhou Shihui. Huang Zhen Hua saw the chaos at the scene and quickly took Zhou Shihui away. Driven by curiosity, he asked the reason, and found out that Zhou Shihui had fallen in love with Huang Zhen Hua's sister, Huang Yi Mei. Huang Zhen Hua was very angry and beat up Zhou Shihui, who then confessed his emotional shift.
Three months ago, Huang Zhen Hua brought his sister Huang Yi Mei to the office for an internship, and asked Zhou Shihui to take care of her. Zhou Shihui fell in love with Huang Yi Mei at first sight, and often tried to be with her, taking her for coffee and movies.
Huang Zhen Hua thought Zhou Shihui was cheating, temporarily blinded by the so-called love, when in fact it was just unrequited love, as Huang Yi Mei had countless suitors. But Zhou Shihui was deeply in love with Huang Yi Mei and couldn't extricate himself. When Huang Yi Mei came home and saw a stuffed bear, she immediately received a call from a suitor. Huang's father helped her fend him off, telling the suitor not to send gifts because the whole family was allergic to pollen.
At this time, Huang's mother, who was cooking, complained that Huang Yi Mei had too many suitors, and there were often boys waiting downstairs, which could affect her grad school application. Huang Yi Mei felt she couldn't control others' behavior. Zhizhi was heartbroken after the failed marriage registration, and her best friend took her to a KTV to get drunk. Zhizhi called her relatives to cancel the wedding banquet, claiming that Zhou Shihui had been hit by a car and died.
Huang Zhen Hua asked Huang Yi Mei to come downstairs to talk about something, and they saw another suitor waiting downstairs. After much persuasion, Huang Zhen Hua finally got the suitor to leave. Huang Yi Mei stood silently in the corner. Huang Zhen Hua told Huang Yi Mei that Zhou Shihui had a fiancée, and asked Huang Yi Mei to keep her distance from him. He also said that the whole department was not allowed to go to work, but Huang Yi Mei did not want to listen, as it was Zhou Shihui who had approached her.
As they were talking, they saw the neighbors cheering for Beijing's successful Olympic bid, so they went home to watch the news. At home, they found Zhizhi, heartbroken. Zhizhi knew that Huang Yi Mei was the intern that Zhou Shihui had brought, and she blamed Huang Yi Mei for seducing Zhou Shihui. Huang Yi Mei, however, felt that she had only had coffee with Zhou Shihui once, and did not think she had done anything wrong. Seeing Zhizhi's aggressive behavior, Huang Yi Mei wanted to go and argue with her, but fortunately Huang Zhen Hua mediated and sent Zhizhi away.
When Huang Zhen Hua got home, he saw that Huang Yi Mei had been scolded by their mother. Huang Yi Mei still did not think she had done anything wrong, and their mother slapped her and locked her in her room to reflect. Zhizhi rushed to the office to argue with Huang Zhen Hua, and even wanted to go to Huang Yi Mei's school to argue. Huang Zhen Hua explained that he had not known about it in the beginning, and had just trusted Zhou Shihui to take care of Huang Yi Mei when he knew Zhou Shihui was getting married, not realizing that Zhou Shihui would develop other thoughts.
Huang Yi Mei did not care about the gossip of her colleagues and still dressed up nicely to go to work. When she learned that Zhizhi was upstairs arguing with Huang Zhen Hua, she rushed forward without hesitation.
