Episode 24 recap: General Nan was assassinated.
Mr. Lan from the theater troupe came to see Yan Nanxing, wanting Yan Nanxing to help him fix the scar on his face. Mr. Lan said that years ago, he had encountered a pregnant woman who begged him for help, but as a young man, he was unable to save her, and that's how he got the scar on his face, something he has always regretted deeply. Tong Saier was shocked to realize that this was the brother she had been searching for.
Yan Nanxing directly chased the man away. Tong Saier was deeply saddened and tore up the portrait of her brother.
Shang Bieli came to see Jiang Xinbai, saying that Yan Nanxing had asked him to help find someone, and that he had found the person, but that the person was most likely already dead. Shang Bieli said he and Jiang Xinbai were close, so he came to ask Jiang Xinbai what to do. Jiang Xinbai told Shang Bieli to tell Yan Nanxing, as he felt Yan Nanxing would want to know the truth.
Shang Bieli told Yan Nanxing that the person had gone missing and was likely dead. Yan Nanxing was also deeply saddened to hear this. Yan Nanxing went to the high-rise building, and Jiang Xinbai followed. Yan Nanxing said he was determined to live well.
Shang Bieli realized this was a good thing, as now Tong Saier would not have to keep searching. Shang Bieli said Tong Saier's mother just wanted Tong Saier to have someone to take care of her, so as long as there was such a person, it would be enough.
Shang Bieli said he could be Tong Saier's family, but Tong Saier mistakenly thought Shang Bieli wanted to swear brotherhood with her.
Yao Qianshu rushed back, severely injured, and told someone to go save General Nan. But General Nan had already died. Yan Nanxing said the fatal wound was a penetrating chest injury, indicating he had been ambushed.

Yao Qianshu woke up and said that when they were about to arrive, they were ambushed by a large group of people. General Nan told Yao Qianshu to leave, as if he didn't leave, no one would know the truth, and pushed Yao Qianshu away.
Shang Bieli was furious and wanted to go after them, but Jiang Xinbai stopped him, saying he would submit the current evidence to the Emperor the next day. Shang Bieli said he would wait until the next day.
The next day, when Jiang Xinbai was about to go to the palace, Lu suddenly showed up and said the paintings didn't match, and there were several more that were not here. Lu mentioned a name, and Jiang Xinbai remembered that was the painting his grandfather had received as a birthday gift from Lu.
After Lu left, Jiang Xinbai's grandfather asked him what was going on, and Jiang Xinbai explained. Yan Qingyun looked at the paintings and said Jiang Xinbai's grandfather would likely not be able to clear his name. Jiang Xinbai's grandfather wanted to explain to the Emperor, but Jiang Xinbai stopped him, feeling they couldn't get it straight now.
Jiang Xinbai's grandfather said that years ago he had failed to protect Jiang Xinbai's father, and had been harsh on Jiang Xinbai too, but he wouldn't implicate him anymore. Yao Qianshu discussed the matter with Jiang Xinbai, saying in the current state of the world, even the Emperor didn't believe them, so was it still worth continuing? Jiang Xinbai said he had asked his father before, and his father had said this was their responsibility, and now he seemed to understand.
