Episode 1 recap: Yan Nan Xing is treating the general's wife.
Jiang Xin Bai has arrived in the River Barbarian region to investigate the case of the Kuicao. Jiang Xin Bai's subordinate tells him that the invitation they sent to the general's residence was ignored, with the excuse that the general is ill and unavailable. Yan Nan Xing has set up a stage at a street corner and hired a theater troupe to perform, attracting many people.
Yan Nan Xing states that she and her daughter have come to this place to practice medicine, and hopes everyone will come and support them. She announces that she will provide free medical consultations today, and Jiang Xin Bai observes this. A person comes up on stage, and Yan Nan Xing quickly diagnoses and resolves his medical issue, impressing the crowd with her skill.
Jiang Xin Bai's subordinate suggests they try reaching out to the figure known as White Three instead, since the official channels to the general have failed. Jiang Xin Bai agrees. They hear music coming from a nearby restaurant, and Jiang Xin Bai deduces that White Three must be there, since he had previously requested that same song be played by the courtesan singers.
At the restaurant, Jiang Xin Bai overhears people discussing rumors that the general's wife is a reincarnated snake spirit. Jiang Xin Bai meets with White Three, but mistakenly identifies the wrong person, causing an awkward situation. White Three then brings out higher quality goods for Jiang Xin Bai to inspect, and Jiang Xin Bai asks to be introduced to the big boss. White Three claims he is the big boss himself, which Jiang Xin Bai finds hard to believe, so he has his men bring some silver as an introduction fee.
Jiang Xin Bai tells White Three that he just wants to make some more money, and asks White Three to introduce him to others. White Three agrees, and Jiang Xin Bai says this is a fee for White Three's trouble.
As Jiang Xin Bai is about to leave, someone suddenly attacks White Three and kills him. Jiang Xin Bai is shocked and chases after the assailant, who ends up running onto Yan Nan Xing's theater stage. Yan Nan Xing fights with this person, who then retreats backstage and is found dead.
The authorities arrive and want to arrest Yan Nan Xing. Jiang Xin Bai says he is also involved in this, and asks to be taken in as well. But Yan Nan Xing says this has nothing to do with Jiang Xin Bai, and goes with the authorities alone.
Yan Nan Xing then meets the general's wife, who has been seeking Yan Nan Xing's medical treatment for her unusual illness. Yan Nan Xing agrees to treat the general's wife.
Afterwards, Yan Nan Xing's mother asks about the events. Yan Nan Xing says this was their intended purpose all along. Yan Nan Xing's mother gives her a whistle, saying she will come rushing over if Yan Nan Xing blows it.
When Yan Nan Xing goes to treat the general's wife, she suddenly starts transforming, blowing the whistle but with no one coming. Yan Nan Xing quickly covers the general's wife's face with a cloth, saying it is her secret method. But the general's wife sees Yan Nan Xing's transformed appearance and becomes frightened, screaming out.
Yan Nan Xing hurries out of the room.
