Episode 9 recap: Jia Zhi Xin has arrived.
Pei Zhi Jie said that they can do xiangsheng (crosstalk) but won't act, and Lu Zhi Fei also echoed that, feeling that Boss Wu was just joking with them. However, Xu Xiao Qian was standing by undermining them, saying that he had learned and could act. Lu Zhi Fei turned to let Xu Xiao Qian perform something, and Wan Xia watching Xu Xiao Qian imitate Sun Wukong felt that his performance was not as good as her own.
Boss Wu said it's fine if they can't act, he can find someone to teach them. Lu Zhi Fei was suspicious that Boss Wu was deceiving them, but Boss Wu said he was serious, and the issue with the microphone last time was just an unexpected process, but the result was still pretty good. Pei Zhi Jie expressed gratitude to Boss Wu, saying they even gained more fans after that incident, and Boss Wu felt it was the result of their own efforts.
Boss Wu said just doing xiangsheng was constraining their talent, and they should add some situational comedy. He expressed he would invest in it. Xu Xiao Qian thought Boss Wu had good vision, but before he could finish, he was silenced by the disapproving looks from Pei Zhi Jie and Lu Zhi Fei for using inappropriate wording. But Boss Wu didn't mind and said he had already found a director, and it would be a sure thing.
Pei Zhi Jie was curious about the director, and just then Jia Zhi Xin arrived, shocking everyone. Jia Zhi Xin smiled at everyone, and before he could even get started, Pei Zhi Jie accused him of being an imposter. Jia Zhi Xin pretended not to hear and calmly introduced himself. When Jia Zhi Xin mentioned he had dated a few objects, Pei Zhi Jie and the others were skeptical and accused him of running away.
Jia Zhi Xin mentioned the TV series "I Love My Family", which everyone knew was directed by Ying Da, but Jia Zhi Xin dismissed it, claiming he had directed those shows himself. When Boss Wu asked Jia Zhi Xin to come up with a title, Jia Zhi Xin unhesitatingly said "Performing Myself", leaving everyone awkwardly silent but not saying anything.
When director Jia Zhi Xin was directing the program, he had Pei Zhi Jie place various props around. Pei Zhi Jie was quite skeptical of Jia Zhi Xin's professional capabilities, wondering why there were no tents or the like. Jia Zhi Xin said he wanted them to perform as their true selves, without any extras.
Pei Zhi Jie complained that Jia Zhi Xin started work too early, and Jia Zhi Xin said he came early because he wanted Pei Zhi Jie to treat him to breakfast. Pei Zhi Jie ended up having to take care of Jia Zhi Xin's breakfast. Jia Zhi Xin asked about everyone's preferences, feeling they were too focused on props, and even had Lu Zhi Fei play the "post-youth" role, fully assigning the character parts.
Jia Zhi Xin saw their long gowns and felt they were inappropriate, telling them to reverse them. Xu Xiao Qian looked at their 70s-80s style costumes with doubt, but before they could say anything, Jia Zhi Xin said he wanted to have Peking roast duck for lunch, much to Pei Zhi Jie's dismay. From the start, Jia Zhi Xin had everyone feeling quite on edge, telling them to bring out the "Beijing flavor" and having Pei Zhi Jie tighten his voice.
Jia Zhi Xin grumbled to the staff that they were so dumb, saying they were even more foolish than Pigsy when they couldn't act it out properly despite his instructions. Suddenly, Pei Zhi Jie and the others became immersed in their performances, all critiquing each other. Seeing their performances, Jia Zhi Xin found it quite amusing and had a smile on his face.
When everyone realized the program Jia Zhi Xin was filming was a sham, he slipped away quietly after being exposed. Pei Zhi Jie told Boss Wu that they also wanted to perform as themselves, but could they find a more reliable director in the future instead of this fake one.
