Episode 18 recap: Xu Xiaoqian concealed from his father that he was doing cross-talk (a traditional Chinese comedic performance) and was discovered.
While Wan Xia was fixing a broken door, Xu Xiaoqian came from outside and called out to Wan Xia. Wan Xia said he was busy, but when he heard Xu Xiaoqian mention something about an urgent matter, he put down what he was doing. Xu Xiaoqian shouted at Wan Xia to act while telling him to use old lines.
Wan Xia reminded Xu Xiaoqian to change his clothes. After everything was prepared, Xu Xiaoqian received a video call from his father. He claimed to be working and asked his father not to call him all the time. When his father impatiently asked where he was, Xu Xiaoqian tried to evade the question. Upon hearing his father requesting the company's address, Xu Xiaoqian expressed strong resistance.
Wan Xia, who was holding a mural and getting distracted, accidentally moved it, and Xu Xiaoqian's father noticed. Faced with his father's questioning, Xu Xiaoqian discreetly signaled to Wan Xia. After receiving the hint, Wan Xia called Xu Xiaoqian over for a meeting, narrowly avoiding trouble. Wan Xia mentioned that he wanted Parkinson's disease after the incident.
Wan Xia said he wouldn't help Xu Xiaoqian like this in the future and didn't understand why Xu Xiaoqian didn't tell his father. Xu Xiaoqian explained that if his father found out about his cross-talk, he would kill him, so he was determined to keep it a secret. Wan Xia didn't understand why doing cross-talk was something to be ashamed of.
Xu Xiaoqian insisted it was absolutely not acceptable, and if it weren't for his parents forcing him to perform at a young age, he would have become famous early. Wan Xia suggested that Xu Xiaoqian should talk to his parents and compared it to the broken door, saying that as they were about to close the door, it broke again. Just as Xu Xiaoqian left, he saw his father eating a hamburger at a burger joint. Xu Xiaoqian tried to slip away, but the owner noticed him and announced that he was sick.
Xu Xiaoqian hurriedly returned to Wan Chun Society and anxiously told Chun Jie (Spring Sister) that someone older and thinner would come looking for him later, and Chun Jie should say she didn't know him. Chun Jie felt that this was a significant matter and said she would support Xu Xiaoqian at the door. Sensing something was wrong, Xu Xiaoqian quickly pulled Chun Jie back.
Xu Xiaoqian hadn't explained clearly, and Chun Jie didn't understand either, but she loyally told Xu Xiaoqian to leave everything to her.
In front of Pei Zhi Jie, Xu Xiaoqian pretended to be sick in order to take leave and avoid his father's investigation. Unexpectedly, Pei Zhi Jie insisted on giving Xu Xiaoqian a traditional ancestral remedy to drink. Wan Xia watched as Xu Xiaoqian was about to drink it and was somewhat impressed. Xu Xiaoqian couldn't hold it and needed to use the restroom. Chun Jie saw someone at the door who inquired about Xu Xiaoqian. She denied knowing Xu Xiaoqian and sent the person away, but she didn't think he was a bad person.
Wan Xia was very worried about Xu Xiaoqian. Xu Xiaoqian entrusted Wan Xia to help him take leave. When Wan Xia left, Xu Xiaoqian felt relieved, but unexpectedly, Wan Xia came back and wanted to take Xu Xiaoqian to the hospital. Wan Xia brought Xu Xiaoqian to the hospital and after thorough examinations, there were no issues. However, Xu Xiaoqian kept complaining of pain, and the doctor told him that further examination was necessary.
Xu Xiaoqian sat outside while Wan Xia, who was friends with the doctor, staged a scene, exposing Xu Xiaoqian's lie. Xu Xiaoqian told Wan Xia, and Wan Xia said that it would be over if he just confessed, but Xu Xiaoqian always looked for trouble. Pei Zhi Jie also thought it should be revealed. Xu Xiaoqian's father was called over, and everyone informed him of the situation. Xu Xiaoqian's father was very angry and answered Xu Xiaoqian's phone call on the spot, listening to Xu Xiaoqian's fabrications. Wan Xia helplessly called Xu Xiaoqian to come back.
After Xu Xiaoqian came back, his father pulled him away, saying that cross-talk was useless. Xu Xiaoqian's father said he wouldn't interfere with Xu Xiaoqian anymore. Wan Xia chased after them and gave Xu Xiaoqian's father a ticket to watch Xu Xiaoqian's cross-talk performance. However, Xu Xiaoqian's father said he knew his son best, and if he persisted after three years, he would come to watch him perform.
