Episode 1 recap: Xu Xiaoqian wants to join Wan Chun Society.
As a member of the relatively unknown crosstalk troupe Wan Chun Society, Xu Xiaoqian (played by Meng He Tang) is currently working as a junior employee in an advertising company. Every day, he dreams of becoming a star and feels that his life is about to undergo a tremendous change. Xu Xiaoqian believes that all of this is due to a dream he had recently.
He believes that as long as a person has dreams, there is a chance they might come true. He is convinced that he will become a crosstalk performer. Just as he is about to lie down and sleep, Uncle Fang (played by Zheng Qian) arrives. Xu Xiaoqian quickly tidies up a place for Uncle Fang to sit. Seeing Xu Xiaoqian preparing to pour tea for himself, Uncle Fang indicates that he brought his own tea and asks Xu Xiaoqian to sit down. Uncle Fang straightforwardly informs Xu Xiaoqian that his lease is about to expire.
Xu Xiaoqian says he is aware of this and plans to renew his stay. Uncle Fang informs Xu Xiaoqian ahead of time that he has sold the house, and in a couple of days, Xu Xiaoqian needs to vacate. Xu Xiaoqian is stunned after hearing this. He weakly says that the lease has not expired and there is also a penalty for breaking the contract. Uncle Fang generously says that the penalty is not a problem, and if there is any damage to the house, he will have to compensate as well. Just as he finishes speaking, Uncle Fang starts finding faults. Xu Xiaoqian struggles to defend himself and tries to stop him, but Uncle Fang insists that he must move out the next day.
Xu Xiaoqian tells Qin Xian (played by Qin Xiaoxian) that he is now homeless. When Xu Xiaoqian hears Qin Xian say he will use his family connections to buy him a house, Xu Xiaoqian becomes overjoyed. But before he can fully celebrate, Qin Xian says he was just joking and suggests they look for a house together. As soon as they arrive at the company, Qin Xian tells Xu Xiaoqian that the company is going to lay off employees. Xu Xiaoqian thinks it's a good opportunity to receive the penalty for breaking the contract and asks Li Naidong to lay him off.
In the office, Xu Xiaoqian is not polite at all and directly calls out Li Naidong's full name. Upon hearing that Li Naidong won't lay him off, Xu Xiaoqian hurriedly resigns on his own accord to avoid causing trouble for Li Naidong. Li Naidong tells Xu Xiaoqian that he will lay off Qin Xian instead. Xu Xiaoqian starts to feel that Qin Xian shouldn't be laid off. Just as he is about to sign the contract, Xu Xiaoqian feels that something is not right. He coincidentally offends Li Naidong and gets transferred to work in the restroom. Frustrated, he decides to quit his job.
Qin Xian comes to comfort Xu Xiaoqian, but Xu Xiaoqian, being optimistic, believes that when things reach their worst, something good will happen. As soon as he steps out, he sees an electric scooter being hit, and Pei Zhi Jie (played by Luan Yun Ping) leaves his phone number for Xu Xiaoqian to contact him.
Wang Bo (played by Wang Jiulong) and Zhang Yuan (played by Zhang Jiuling) are performing crosstalk on stage for Guo Degang.
Lu Zhi Fei (played by Zhang Helun) and Wan Xia (played by Zhou Jiuliang) are anxiously waiting for Pei Zhi Jie. When Pei Zhi Jie arrives, he learns that there is an audience member in the audience who is not laughing. He feels dissatisfied and wants to give it a try.
Qin Xian advises Xu Xiaoqian to go back, but Xu Xiaoqian insists on finding Pei Zhi Jie. As soon as they enter, they encounter Chun Jie being driven out. Grandpa Guo loudly demands a refund, which makes Pei Zhi Jie and the others feel unwilling as they have been busy for the whole afternoon. Everyone feels that as long as the other party says a few words, they promise to refund.
Grandpa Guo gives them comments on their singing skills one by one, and everyone is quite impressed and wants a refund. However, Grandpa Guo happily leaves. Xu Xiaoqian and Qin Xian sneak into Wan Chun Society. Xu Xiaoqian feels that this is the place where his new life begins. Xu Xiaoqian asks Pei Zhi Jie to accompany him with 30,000 yuan and even says that his electric scooter is his own brother. Qin Xian, holding the newly purchased tickets, wants the other party to pay for the tickets.
When Xu Xiaoqian hears that the other party is going to report to the police, he quickly reveals his intention to let them keep him here to perform crosstalk.
