Episode 39 recap: Shen Li and Xing Zhi facilitate a happy ending for Snake Lady.
While Shen Li and Xing Zhi were chatting in the courtyard, Snake Lady suddenly paid a visit and brought a wedding invitation, hoping they would attend with the stars from the Heavenly Realm. Shen Li was curious about Snake Lady's wedding because she didn't seem like the type of person who would enter into marriage. Xing Zhi suggested that Shen Li find a random stone as a substitute since the Heavenly Realm was sealed off, and no one had seen the real stars.
Snake Lady was infatuated with a mortal cultivator named Mu Zi Chun, whom she had taken care of for over twenty years, but he seemed to have no feelings for her. Snake Lady confided in Shen Li and Xing Zhi, doubting her own charm. Xing Zhi reminded her that men can be reserved and Mu Zi Chun might actually like her but just wasn't good at expressing it.
To test Mu Zi Chun, Xing Zhi suggested that Snake Lady temporarily withdraw her affection and see if he would reveal his true feelings. Shen Li disguised herself as Xing Zhi and flaunted herself in front of Mu Zi Chun, making him believe that Snake Lady had moved on to another love interest.
Seeing Snake Lady no longer caring about him and getting close to another man, Mu Zi Chun couldn't help but feel jealous, though he denied it verbally. In the end, he angrily left after humiliating Snake Lady, which made Snake Lady see his true feelings.
To confirm Mu Zi Chun's feelings, Snake Lady promised to give him a great gift. Xing Zhi and Shen Li accelerated their plan, purposely letting Mu Zi Chun see their intimacy to trigger his jealousy. In a fit of anger, Mu Zi Chun attempted to seriously harm Xing Zhi but cleverly evaded his attacks. All of this convinced Xing Zhi that Mu Zi Chun had feelings for Snake Lady.
He then devised a plan to make the King of Bi Cang "kill" Snake Lady, provoking Mu Zi Chun's furious retaliation. Mu Zi Chun disregarded everything to rescue Snake Lady, proving his love for her. The wedding took place as scheduled, and Snake Lady presented Xing Zhi with an ancient jade pendant as a thanks. His health gradually recovered. Shen Li was invited to the wedding, and in a moment of emotion, Xing Zhi proposed to her. The two of them planned to have their own wedding.
What excited Xing Zhi even more was that they were about to welcome a new life. After experiencing various twists and turns, they finally achieved happiness, and all the past hardships became worthwhile.
