Episode 1 recap: Shen Li descended to the mortal realm to escape marriage.
In ancient times, one evening, amidst thunder and lightning, Shen Li, the Azure Sky King, desperate to avoid marriage, defied the Spirit Sovereign. Numerous guards from the celestial realm sought to forcibly bring Shen Li back, but outnumbered and overwhelmed, Shen Li was forced to create a hole in the celestial realm and fly out directly. Just as Mo Fang saw that Shen Li was about to be overpowered, he devised a plan and willingly injured himself to safely send Shen Li away.
The pursuing celestial soldiers did not understand the situation and mistakenly believed that Mo Fang had harmed Shen Li, assuming that Shen Li's descent to the mortal realm would bring more harm than good. In the mortal realm, in the city of Qingsheng, the celestial pursuers traced Shen Li's landing location. Shen Li, injured and vulnerable, was soon picked up by a rough farmer who mistook him for a burnt chicken without feathers and sold him.
Late at night, Xingyun was painting in the study when suddenly he heard a loud noise in the sky. This was an unusual phenomenon on a clear day, but he shook his head and continued painting. The next morning, Xingyun went out and coincidentally saw Shen Li for sale in a bamboo basket at the market. He spent some silver coins and brought Shen Li home. Shen Li, having descended to the mortal realm, not only lost his spiritual power but was also mistaken for a chicken despite being a phoenix. Being bought by Xingyun, he was first forced to bathe in a pond and then compelled to eat. Seeing that Xingyun's pastries were not bad, Shen Li reluctantly ate a large plate.
With nothing else to do, Shen Li saw Xingyun quietly painting and thought this person was somewhat attractive. Suddenly, he heard Xingyun greet him and mention selling himself (selling ginseng). The remaining trace of goodwill immediately shattered. Xingyun referred to Shen Li as "Kakada" and instructed him to take care of the house before leaving. Shen Li was about to escape when a "little thief" entered the house. Curious, Shen Li wanted to see what was happening, but he was suddenly discovered by the snail girl and captured with the intention of stewing him.
Poor Shen Li was bound and about to meet her demise when suddenly Xingyun returned! Finally, she managed to save her life. Shen Li finally settled down quietly on the side, hearing Xingyun remind the "snail girl" not to come again and even offering the cloth in his hand as a gift. By forcefully driving away the "snail girl," Shen Li immediately concluded that Xingyun was clueless about romance and quite boring.
When faced with a situation, it is best to take the path of least resistance. There was nothing to hold on to here. Shen Li was preparing to run away from home, but after shaking herself a few times, she still couldn't take flight. Xingyun approached with the prepared food, surprisingly knowing where Shen Li was planning to run away. He invited Shen Li to have a meal. The famished Shen Li couldn't resist the temptation of delicious food and ended up staying to eat with relish.
After eating their fill in the courtyard and accompanying Xingyun to watch the sunrise and sunset, Shen Li unexpectedly fell asleep peacefully at night. It's unclear how much time had passed when Xingyun put down his paintbrush and walked out of the courtyard. He saw Shen Li sleeping peacefully under the moonlight and couldn't help but feel moved by her pureness. The moonbeams continued to shine on her eyes, so to keep Shen Li undisturbed, Xingyun casually picked up a stone and gently tapped it nearby, blocking the moonlight with its faint glow.
Having suffered severe injuries, Shen Li once again contemplated running away. However, this time she wasn't as lucky. She was mistaken for a strange pheasant and captured by people, almost becoming a delicious dish in their pot. Shen Li exerted all her strength to escape from the clutches of the villains. It started pouring rain, leaving Shen Li drenched and disheartened. She thought about returning to the heavens and facing the forced marriage situation again. Shen Li was utterly dejected. At that moment, Xingyun appeared, holding an umbrella, and slowly walked towards her. Half of the umbrella covered Shen Li's head. Shen Li saw this handsome scholar once again embracing her and taking her home.
