Episode 3 recap: Shen Li had suspicions about Xingyun's identity.
When the farmer found out that Xingyun had been with him for over ten years, she burst into tears. She tightly held the man's hand and asked if it was true. The man, with tears in his eyes, remained silent. However, Xingyun revealed that continuing to stay would shorten the farmer's lifespan due to their ignorance. The man immediately decided not to disturb his beloved anymore. Shen Li nodded, knowing she could fulfill his wish. After passionately kissing his wife, the man firmly declared that he would leave.
Shen Li performed a spell to help the man return to the Forgotten River. Afterwards, she helped the farmer up and advised her to live a good life, knowing that the man had always loved her deeply and wanted her to have a better life. Shen Li and Xingyun went back, and on the way, Xingyun noticed that Shen Li had changed from her usual lively and noisy self, suspecting that she had not fully recovered from the previous situation. He comforted her by saying, "The past is illusory, only the future is life." He reminded her to cherish the present. This improved Shen Li's mood. However, Xingyun accidentally slipped and fell into the water. Shen Li couldn't bear to see him in danger and jumped into the water to save him. Xingyun had initially expected Shen Li to gently lift him from the water, but to his surprise, she came to his side and grabbed his hair, pulling him out of the water. In the process, she accidentally pulled out a tuft of his hair.
Seeing that Xingyun was unharmed, Shen Li formally bid farewell and prepared to leave. However, Xingyun quickly turned her into a phoenix, indicating that he had not fully recovered yet. Shen Li had no choice but to follow Xingyun back home. The transformation of Shen Li from a beautiful woman to a bird was witnessed by the farmer's brother, who was obsessed with wealth.
