Episode 19 recap: Li Meng Meng and Qi Yan are being pursued.
Li Meng Meng and Qi Yan were walking hand in hand when she said that they finally managed to separate Lu Huan and Kong An, who were like third wheels. Qi Yan asked her what she meant by "third wheels," and Li Meng Meng explained that it referred to people who watched them while they were holding hands.
Qi Yan said that when he returned, he would ask the Empress Dowager to arrange a marriage for the two of them. Li Meng Meng asked what would happen to Cui Wan Er in that case. Li Meng Meng was taking pictures with her camera by the canal when Qi Yan happened to appear, and she took a picture of him.
Qi Yan accidentally bumped into Li Meng Meng's backpack, causing it to fall to the ground, and a talisman fell out of it. Qi Yan noticed that the straps of the backpack had been tampered with, as if someone had intentionally put something inside and sewn it back up. During their argument, the two of them noticed a person in the corner. Li Tao quickly chased after the person but couldn't see who it was. Before they could say much, they encountered assassins. Qi Yan told Li Meng Meng to hide on the boat. While fighting with a person in black, Qi Yan was stabbed. Seeing that the person in black was about to harm Li Meng Meng on the boat, Qi Yan quickly pulled her onto the boat and jumped into the water.
Kong An and Lu Huan arrived after finishing their shopping and saw the chaotic scene. They knew that assassins had already ambushed the place. They had been waiting for the two of them to leave so they could attack the Emperor. Kong An believed that the key now was to find the Emperor.
Li Meng Meng, with the injured Qi Yan, found an inn. She believed that Qi Yan would be saved. Li Meng Meng laid Qi Yan down on the ground and took out medicine to treat his wounds. She took off Qi Yan's shirt and applied the medicine. Qi Yan told Li Meng Meng not to worry, as his injuries were minor and he wouldn't die.
Li Meng Meng said she couldn't find clean water but had medicine with her. Qi Yan was deeply moved by Li Meng Meng's care for him. He hugged her and said that as long as he held her, the pain would go away. Sai Xue and Li Tao were strolling on the street when they saw a wanted notice posted by the authorities, seeking the capture of high-ranking criminals, and realized that the people on the notice were Qi Yan and Li Meng Meng.
Cui Wan Er heard someone calling for help outside the door and prepared to open it to see what was happening. As soon as Cui Wan Er opened the door, she saw that the person who had arrived was her father, Cui An Shi's, men. She was about to speak when she was knocked unconscious. After seeing Qi Yan's wound becoming infected, Li Meng Meng went out to find help. She was almost caught by the authorities but was saved by Li Tao.
Li Tao asked Qi Yan who was chasing them. Li Meng Meng said that even a child could figure out that it was Cui An Shi. Cui Wan Er was taken back by Cui An Shi, and they used her as leverage to threaten Qi Su.
When Xiao Lian brought food to Cui Wan Er, Cui Wan Er switched places with her. As soon as she came out, she overheard Cui An Shi saying that he would kill Qi Yan and make himself the Emperor. She realized that she couldn't allow it and had to inform Qi Su. However, as soon as she reached the door, Cui An Shi caught her and took her back.
