Episode 18 recap: Qi Su pretended to cooperate with Cui An Shi.
Qi Yan asked Li Meng Meng if she wanted to eat a bowl of noodles because she hadn't eaten anything all day. Li Meng Meng said she didn't feel like eating, so Qi Yan asked her if she wanted to eat osmanthus cake. Li Meng Meng said she didn't have much appetite. Qi Yan saw a woman next to him receiving flowers and was happy, so he picked one for Li Meng Meng by the roadside.
Qi Su accompanied Cui Wan Er in her room and poured her a cup of tea. Cui Wan Er asked Qi Su to pinch her. Qi Su asked her why. Cui Wan Er said she was so happy now that she was afraid it wasn't real.
Qi Su said they would be even happier in the future. Cui Wan Er said she had already figured out their life after going to the border. She wanted to have a courtyard where she could grow flowers and plants. She also wanted to raise a dog with a little bell hanging around its neck, making a lively jingling sound when it walked.
Qi Su told Cui Wan Er that he had something to do and had to return to the city. He asked her to wait for him to come back. Reluctantly, Qi Su bid farewell to Cui Wan Er, who asked him not to get hurt. It started to rain heavily in Yangcheng, and Qi Yan and Li Meng Meng used their hands to catch the rainwater together.
Li Meng Meng noticed that her hands had become transparent. She didn't know what was going on and wondered if she was seeing things. Li Tao's subordinates found out that the Qi Kingdom had solved the drought problem by building a canal, but they didn't know how to build it. Qi Yan, Cui Wan Er, Li Tao, Sai Xue, and Li Meng Meng were having a meal when Lord Li Ming arrived.
Li Tao asked Lord Li Ming if he could give him the blueprint of the canal because he really needed it. Li Meng Meng told Lord Li not to pay attention to him. Qi Yan asked Lord Li to sit down and have some food with them, but Lord Li said he had already eaten on his way there. Lu Huan took him to where he was staying, and Li Meng Meng followed them. She asked Lord Li if he wanted to go and listen to the opera.
The two sat under the stage, and Lord Li asked Li Meng Meng how she knew he liked watching operas. Li Meng Meng recalled accompanying her father to watch operas when she was a child, and she would fall asleep as soon as the show started. Li Meng Meng thought to herself that she must not fall asleep this time and that she must accompany Lord Li until the end.
However, unexpectedly, Li Meng Meng fell asleep again, and Qi Yan happened to arrive. He asked why Li Meng Meng was watching the show with another man and if she needed to explain it to him.
Qi Yan and Li Tao also became jealous and bickered with each other because of Li Meng Meng. In the end, they were all kicked out, and Li Meng Meng blamed it on Li Tao and the others for not being able to finish watching. Li Meng Meng apologized to Lord Li, but he felt that the outcome didn't matter as long as there were beautiful moments. Li Meng Meng asked Lord Li what kind of person he wanted Wan Wan to grow up to be, and Lord Li said as long as she was healthy and happy.
Suddenly, Qi Yan shouted to be careful as several men in black rushed out, attempting to assassinate them. In order to save Li Meng Meng, Lord Li was killed by the men in black. Before he died, Lord Li asked Li Meng Meng if she was hurt. Li Meng Meng called out to Lord Li as her father and cried uncontrollably at the sight of his lifeless body.
In her heart, Li Meng Meng had already considered Lord Li as her own father. Qi Yan gave Lord Li a proper burial. Cui Wan Er advised Li Meng Meng not to be too heartbroken, but Li Meng Meng asked them to go back first, as she wanted to be alone for a while.
Qi Yan stayed with Li Meng Meng, who blamed herself for the incident involving Lord Li. Qi Yan reassured her that it wasn't her fault and promised to make those responsible pay. Kong An informed Qi Yan that he had investigated and discovered that they were Cui An Shi's men.
Lu Huan couldn't believe that they had dared to assassinate the Emperor. Qi Yan believed that they had been anticipating it for a long time and instructed Kong An to protect Li Meng Meng and Cui Wan Er. Li Meng Meng was devastated by Lord Li's death, so Qi Yan did everything he could to cheer her up.
Qi Su found Cui An Shi and said that he wanted to make a deal, pretending to be on his side. Qi Su expressed his desire to become the Emperor of Qi Kingdom, but Cui An Shi dismissed it as a joke. Cui An Shi told Qi Su to go back quickly and pretend that he had never come.
Qi Su claimed that his goals aligned with Cui An Shi's and that he could help him. Worried that Cui An Shi wouldn't believe him, Qi Su fabricated a story about Qi Yan killing Cui Wan Er. Cui An Shi quickly started making plans and staged Qi Yan's return to the palace as a ruse.
Cui An Shi also informed the Empress Dowager that Qi Yan would not be returning and pushed her to the ground.
