Episode 16 recap: Qin Manfu gave an accurate and truthful account.

Qin Manfu was arrested, and he wanted to take full responsibility so that Yan Zi could regain her freedom. It was true that on that night, he had helped Yan Zi dispose of the body. However, he claimed that he had returned home to find Bian Jie stealing money, and discovered that Bian Jie had harbored improper intentions towards his sister. In a fit of emotion, he accidentally killed Bian Jie and buried the body under his grandmother's coffin.

Qin Yong knew that the father and daughter both wanted to take the blame for each other. Yan Zi had recorded a video, asking the police to give it to her. In the video, she expressed that she had been living with guilt all these years, and now she wanted to atone for it in her own way and start anew.

Seeing his daughter's tears in the video, Qin Manfu's silent fatherly love was evident - though he was not good with words, he was willing to sacrifice himself for his child. However, Qin Yong told him that this kind of love would only become a burden for Yan Zi, who was currently living in anguish and guilt.

Qin Manfu then decided to reveal the truth. He had indeed intended to quietly dispose of Bian Jie's body for Yan Zi's sake. However, to his surprise, Bian Jie had regained consciousness while Qin Manfu was digging the grave. Qin Manfu had actually been relieved that Bian Jie was still alive, as that meant Yan Zi would not be in trouble. He had persistently pleaded with Bian Jie not to hold a grudge against Yan Zi, as it was not intentional.

Bian Jie had feared that Qin Manfu would kill him, and tried to escape. He knew that the Doudou kidnapping incident years ago had been orchestrated by Qin Manfu, though the wrong person had been taken. However, Qin Manfu had felt guilty towards Bian Jie all these years, and had tried his best to cater to him, even giving him more pocket money than Yan Zi's monthly salary. But Bian Jie had developed inappropriate intentions towards his own sister.

Seeing a photo of Yan Zi taking a bath that had fallen from Bian Jie, Qin Manfu was enraged and decided to bury Bian Jie alive.

Wang Shitu told Qin Manfu that they had both misunderstood Bian Jie. The photo was taken by Du Yi, who had already confessed. Bian Jie had the photo to protect his sister - he had taken it from Du Yi's wallet while Du Yi was fighting with Wang Shuai.

Bian Jie had always been trying to protect his sister, but they had misjudged him. Qin Manfu was devastated to realize that he had accidentally killed his own child due to a misunderstanding.

After confessing to the 417 case, Qin Manfu requested to meet with Wang Shitu. He told Wang Shitu that the middleman had known they had the wrong person, so they had asked Qin Manfu to go pick up Doudou. When Qin Manfu saw many police officers on the overpass, he had just left Doudou there, hoping the police would take him home. Qin Manfu had only later learned that Doudou had gone missing.

With the case resolved and the suspects facing legal consequences, Bian Meizhen decided to return to her village. Little Seven and Wang Jia came to visit her, and she gave Little Seven a sweater she had knitted and the house key, hoping he would come back to visit when he had time.

Wang Shitu had been transferred to be the captain of the criminal investigation team in another county. He had prepared a lot of food for Little Seven, but Little Seven also decided to leave, wanting to go to the provincial capital near the sea to find work. He politely declined Wang Shitu's offer of help, believing he could manage on his own. As the case came to an end, the people entangled in it would eventually go their separate ways. Little Seven hoped Wang Shitu would come visit him when he had time, and the two embraced.
