Episode 14 recap: Jinmanfu used Doudou to lure Wang Shitu.
Wang Shitu had been searching for Doudou for many years, and his wife Lulu also fell ill due to Doudou's disappearance. A year later, Lulu passed away, and before her death, she hoped that Wang Shitu would give up searching for Doudou and find someone else to start a new family with. Wang Shitu pretended to agree with Lulu, just to let her pass away peacefully.
However, when faced with Lulu's body, Wang Shitu stated that he would never remarry and would continue searching for Doudou until the day he died. Jinmanfu became anxious and arranged to meet Wang Shitu at the kindergarten. Wang Shitu was in a daze, unsure of how to proceed, but after some contemplation, he decided to go meet Jinmanfu.
Jinmanfu explained the misunderstanding from the past. He had married Bianmeizhen, wanting to have a child of their own, but due to Bianlie's existence, Bianmeizhen didn't want to. Later, at a dinner party, Jinmanfu overheard someone saying that a couple had bought a child who was now living well, so he hatched a plan to have Bianlie kidnapped, hoping that without Bianlie, Bianmeizhen would agree to have a child with him.
Unexpectedly, Doudou was mistakenly taken instead of Bianlie, wearing Bianlie's clothes. Jinmanfu later managed to contact Bianlie's foster parents, and he promised that if Wang Shitu helped him rescue Yanzi, he would take Wang Shitu to reunite with Doudou. For the sake of his son, Wang Shitu decided to help Jinmanfu, starting by making the evidence disappear so that Yanzi would be released in due time.
Wang Shitu used the excuse of needing to take nails to the provincial capital for examination, took the nails, and handed them over to Jinmanfu. However, Xiaoqi proactively went to find Zhangzheng, telling him that Wang Shitu had been acting strange since his contact with Jinmanfu, and suspected it was related to the Doudou incident, so he hoped Zhangzheng would keep an eye on Wang Shitu to prevent him from doing anything out of the ordinary.
Zhang Zheng realized the significance of Wang Shitu's request for the nails, so he hurried back and found that his master was no longer in the office. He then went to find Qin Yong and asked if he knew about Wang Shitu taking the nails to the provincial capital for examination. Qin Yong was furious, as he had not signed off on it, so how could Wang Shitu just take them without permission.
They then tracked down the location where Wang Shitu was meeting with Jinmanfu, but they didn't find the two men there, as Wang Shitu had anticipated the situation and quickly left with Jinmanfu, who managed to exit through the back door of the teahouse before the police arrived. Jinmanfu had obtained the nails from Wang Shitu, thinking that everything was now settled, as the police would no longer have direct evidence linking Yanzi to Bianlie's murder, and she would soon be released.
Later, Wang Shitu was disciplined for his actions. However, he thought that this would lead to Yanzi's release, but when Jinmanfu went to pick her up, he was informed that Qin Yong had found new evidence, and Yanzi could not be released after all. Qin Yong had closely reviewed the recordings of his questioning of Jinmanfu and Bianmeizhen, and he found a discrepancy - Jinmanfu had said that Bianlie couldn't swim, but Qin Yong had seen photos of a young Bianlie in the water at the Jin家.
Qin Yong decided to secretly visit Bianmeizhen at the Jin家to investigate further. Sure enough, Bianmeizhen said that Bianlie had loved swimming, and as for her own claims about a "water ghost," it was because one year when she was hospitalized in Yangcun, she had woken up to the feeling of water droplets on her face, and saw the back of a person in a raincoat standing by her bed, though she couldn't fully make out who it was. Afterward, she had always felt that the figure seemed familiar.
