Episode 8 recap: Liu Xiao Yu is suspected of participating in a murder exchange.
According to Tina's father Wen Ren, he was brought to the police station for questioning, and he confessed that he had a deal with Liu Xiao Yu. Liu Xiao Yu killed Jira Yu, and then Wen Ren was supposed to intentionally crash his car to kill Liu Xiao Yu, as Liu Xiao Yu no longer wanted to live. The video on Wen Ren's phone showing Jira Yu's death was also sent to him by Liu Xiao Yu.
Wen Ren explained that over the years he had been searching for Jira Yu's whereabouts, frequently changing jobs, but found nothing. He eventually posted the photos on the dark web, but no one contacted him. Just as he was about to give up, someone reached out and offered to help him get rid of Jira Yu, but Wen Ren had to follow the plan and intentionally crash his car at a designated location. The person had provided Wen Ren with a description of the perpetrator - a man in a black suit carrying a bouquet of flowers.
Later that night, the detective informed Tan Jing Tian about Wen Ren's confession, but Tan Jing Tian did not believe his senior colleague could be involved in a murder exchange. Due to regulations, the detective could not provide the relevant materials to Tan Jing Tian, and he currently had no other evidence to prove that Wen Ren was lying.
In the Lin Mei Feng case, the team led by Captain Ru has shifted their suspicions to the victim's wife Kong Xue and her ex-boyfriend Li Yue. Although Lin Mei Feng and Kong Xue had just recently registered their marriage, since this is a murder case, all relevant parties present at the scene become suspects. The team believes there is a possibility of a crime of passion, where the perpetrator may have intended to kill Kong Xue but accidentally killed Lin Mei Feng instead, or the killing may have been driven by jealousy over Lin Mei Feng's romantic history, as he had many former lovers and debts.
Tan Jing Tian came seeking help from Captain Ru's team, as he did not believe that Liu Xiao Yu was involved in a murder exchange. However, the team was concerned about Tan Jing Tian's self-blame and the fact that it was a cross-border case, so they were hesitant to get involved. Seeing that the team did not want to help, Tan Jing Tian grew angry and decided to investigate on his own, as he could not let his senior colleague be accused of murder.
In the evening, the detective invited Jin Ling out to dinner and told him about Wen Ren's confession. Now that Tan Jing Tian also knew about it, the detective hoped Jin Ling could convince Tan Jing Tian not to act rashly, as he was still quite concerned about him. Jin Ling immediately called Tan Jing Tian, and as expected, Tan Jing Tian wanted to see the chat records. However, Jin Ling knew the importance of discipline, so he firmly refused.
Tan Jing Tian told Jin Ling that none of Liu Xiao Yu's associates, not even his own parents, knew about his insurance policy. Therefore, Wen Ren's mention of the insurance was a lie, and his entire story could not be fully trusted. Jin Ling hoped Tan Jing Tian would remain rational, as the police were investigating Liu Xiao Yu's case, and the detective was a responsible officer who would not let the guilty go free or wrongly accuse the innocent.
Regarding the Lin Mei Feng case, the police have thoroughly investigated Lin Mei Feng's previous romantic interests. They learned that Lin Mei Feng was a morally corrupt individual who had affairs with several married women, and some even ended up committing suicide or getting into fatal accidents because of him. This suggests that Lin Mei Feng had many potential enemies. As for Li Yue, Xiao Xiao brought him in for questioning, but his behavior did not indicate any suspicion of murdering Lin Mei Feng.
