Episode 21 recap: Tan Jing Tian re-analyzed the cause of Hu Die's death.

She inquired whether Ba Se had cut the telephone line, but Ba Se was not aware of this. He recalled that it was his sister Hu Die who had cut the telephone line, likely when he first arrived in the village, as she had recognized him. But why did she not reveal herself to him? If she had, he definitely would have taken her away with him so they could be together forever.

Tan Jing Tian speculated that Hu Die had learned of Ba Se's plan for revenge and decided to secretly support him, which is why she did not reveal herself to Ba Se. It was indeed Hu Die who was cooperating with Ba Se in secret. When Hu Die discovered that Ba Se had killed Ma Dui Si, she climbed a tree to cut the telephone line. She also noticed when Ba Se tried to switch the almond cakes for poisoned ones, but there were too many people around for him to act, so Hu Die deliberately knocked over the second son with her wheelchair to create an opportunity for Ba Se.

Later on a rainy night, Ba Se carried the now-deceased second son to the back mountain, as the muddy path would have left footprints. Hu Die quietly observed Ba Se, and after he returned to his room, she used a wooden board to obscure the footprints. Ba Se was very saddened, not understanding why Hu Die would do this.

Ba Se did not plot to kill Wu Lai Wang, which Jin Ling could not comprehend, as Wu Lai Wang seemed the most hateful. Tan Jing Tian analyzed that Ba Se did not know Hu Die was still alive, and so was unaware of what Wu Lai Wang had done to Hu Die. Ba Se's sole targets were the village chief and Ma Dui Si.

Based on the recent events, Tan Jing Tian inferred that another reason Hu Die did not reveal herself to Ba Se was that she knew they were police officers. Hu Die had been secretly observing them, and she knew that if she revealed herself and they left together, they would soon be suspected. So she chose to expose herself and perish together with Wu Lai Wang - this way she could avenge herself, convey the news of her survival to Ba Se, and take all the blame upon herself, allowing Ba Se the chance to live.

With Tan Jing Tian and Cha there, Ba Se would be taken away without suspicion, and he could live peacefully. Tan Jing Tian and the others now understood Hu Die's words before her death - she said she had no family, and now death would be a happy thing for her, so she wanted to perish along with the beast Wu Lai Wang.

When Ba Se learned of Hu Die's true identity, his emotions spiraled out of control and he cried deeply. It was not out of fear, but because he realized that his only family in this world was still alive, and Hu Die had borne all the blame for him. Hu Die's final wish was for Cha and the others to rescue the kidnapped women in the village, so they could live well in her stead.

She then hugged a gas canister and committed suicide. Ba Se had never imagined that his only family had lived through a hellish existence in the time they were separated, only to die before his eyes. He was utterly grief-stricken.
