Episode 20 recap: Baise's Account of the Crime

Tan Jing Tian was kidnapped by Baise. Jin Ling and Cha saw this and were very anxious. Cha pleaded with Baise to release Tan Jing Tian, and Baise eventually did so. Cha then immediately apprehended Baise and made him confess his identity. Tan Jing Tian did not want Baise to reveal this, but Baise understood Tan's kindness. However, since Baise's sister Hu Die had already died, he no longer had any reason to hide anything.

Baise and Hu Die grew up in the same orphanage. Hu Die was later selected by the owner of a circus, but the siblings did not want to be separated. The circus owner only wanted the girl, so Hu Die suggested that Baise dress up as a girl so they could both go. Baise got used to wearing women's clothes from a young age, and eventually came to enjoy it.

As an adult, Baise worked in a bar and was harassed by customers. When they tried to accost him after work, they discovered he was a cross-dresser and beat him up in anger. Hu Die saw this and injured one of the men, leading to a conflict where both Baise and Hu Die were hurt. Baise became distressed, wondering if there was something wrong with him, but Hu Die told him to just be himself without worrying about others' perceptions.

After Hu Die was kidnapped, Baise searched for her and eventually learned that she had died in a fire at the Ulaiwang household. Hiding there, Baise overheard Sampaula talking about Hu Die's fate. From that point on, Baise decided to avenge Hu Die. He pretended to be a medium and instructed Sampaula to follow his plan, which involved Baise undergoing gender reassignment surgery and purposefully getting kidnapped to be sold to the Ulaiwangs.

Baise's transformation was not solely for the sake of avenging Hu Die, as it had also been Hu Die's wish for Baise to be able to live as his true self as a woman.

Baise did not know how Tan Jing Tian discovered his weakness. In fact, Tan Jing Tian became suspicious the moment he saw Baise's feet, and when Tan tried to pull him, he felt Baise's immense strength, confirming his suspicions.

Regarding the incident with the second son, Baise was with him at the time. Afterwards, Baise bound himself to pretend to be a victim, avoiding suspicion. He killed the village chief because the chief was in cahoots with Niantesi, abusing the kidnapped father and daughter. Baise saw himself as the local tyrant, so during the offering ritual, he laced the large pastry on top with poisoned apricot, knowing the chief would take that one.

Baise admitted to killing the village chief and Niantesi. He knew Niantesi would be alone the night before her wedding, so he killed her while they slept together. However, Baise claims he did not kill the second son. One night, he found the son had died in his sleep, so Baise placed a cocoon in his mouth and threw him into the pond behind the house.

Baise knows there is no difference between killing one person or two, but he will not admit to killing the son if he did not do it. Jin Ling suspects the sudden deaths may be due to a hereditary disease causing organ deformities, likely affecting the hearts of the brothers. But an autopsy would be needed to confirm.

The truth of the case is becoming clear - Baise came to this village solely for the purpose of revenge.
