Episode 19 recap: The true culprit revealed during the Frost's Descent is Cao Fang.
Frost's Descent, grateful for Ye Xiaosheng saving her, disclosed the truth about the Lin family case executed during the Awakening of Insects. She hired Cao Fang to complete the mission and deliver a pair of jade pendants to a dense forest. Frost's Descent secretly followed the orders of the hall master and witnessed Cao Fang killing Jingzhe. Knowing that she was no match for Cao Fang, Frost's Descent remained hidden in the shadows and did not reveal herself. Later, she reported back to the hall master, who decided to keep Jingzhe's death a secret to protect Ye Xiaosheng.
Upon learning that Cao Fang was the hired assassin who killed the Lin family, Lin Mengchen couldn't help but tremble uncontrollably. She realized that she had considered Cao Fang as family for so many years and wished she could punish herself. Afraid that Frost's Descent might have remembered incorrectly, Ye Xiaosheng asked her to think it through and confirm if it was truly Cao Fang who killed Jingzhe. Frost's Descent was certain, which forced Lin Mengchen to believe that she had mistaken an enemy for a father figure all along. That night, while Ye Xiaosheng pretended to be asleep, Lin Mengchen quietly got up and left. However, Ye Xiaosheng was only pretending to be asleep.
Lin Mengchen confronted Cao Fang, who adamantly claimed to be framed. Believing Cao Fang's words, Lin Mengchen saw a sketch of a jade pendant and decided to uncover the truth. The hall master led Ye Xiaosheng to pursue Cao Fang and, after obtaining a pair of jade pendants from him, ordered Ye Xiaosheng to kill Cao Fang. Lin Mengchen discovered the jade pendant in Ye Xiaosheng's wardrobe and rushed to the riverside, where she witnessed Ye Xiaosheng pushing Cao Fang into the water. Consumed by hatred, she embraced Ye Xiaosheng upon his return and ruthlessly stabbed him with a dagger. Ye Xiaosheng stared in disbelief at his bleeding wound.
