Episode 5 recap: Ruyi wants to have a child with Ning Yuan Zhou.
Li Tong Guang is curious why Liuli appeared here. She shouldn't be a white sparrow in the Zhu Yi Wei. Liuli tells Li Tong Guang that she had the privilege to follow the Emperor for some reason. While they are talking, the prince arrives. In order to save Liuli, Li Tong Guang pretends to be attracted to her, and the prince sees this and mocks Li Tong Guang, calling him a flirtatious young lord who chases after laundry women in broad daylight. The Emperor asks Li Tong Guang why he likes the laundry woman. Chu Gui Fei is in a bad mood there. Li Tong Guang, with an innocent expression, says that he was recently promoted and was a bit too happy.

Yu Shi San thinks Ruyi is mute because she doesn't speak, but Ning Yuan Zhou says that Ruyi simply doesn't bother to respond to him. Ruyi eats a pastry and recalls Ling Long. Ning Yuan Zhou takes Ruyi to meet Yang Ying, but the palace maid doesn't pay attention to Ruyi. Ruyi knocks her down with a palm strike. At this moment, Yang Ying asks Ruyi to stay. Ruyi wonders why Yang Ying was initially afraid of her but now wants her to stay. Yang Ying honestly says that the female officials are very strict. Ruyi realizes that Yang Ying must have been pricked with a needle by the female officials. Ning Yuan Zhou believes that Ruyi can teach Yang Ying well. He also tells Ruyi that he portrays her as Ti Qi outside and as a troublemaker inside, fearing that she might encounter unnecessary trouble.
Ruyi feels that Ning Yuan Zhou is very considerate.

Yang Ying tells Ruyi that she's menstruating and pleads for Ruyi to help her find sanitary supplies. Yang Ying goes home and dismisses everyone. During dinner, Yang Ying feels very uncomfortable, and everyone notices. Ning Yuan Zhou comes to check on Yang Ying, who only says that her stomach hurts. Ning Yuan Zhou thinks that Yang Ying is sick and becomes puzzled when he sees her drinking sweetened water. As Ning Yuan Zhou exits, he collapses due to dizziness.
When Ruyi sees Ning Yuan Zhou wake up, she tells him that Yang Ying drugged him in an attempt to escape. Ning Yuan Zhou is unable to get up, and Ruyi helps him. Ning Yuan Zhou becomes somewhat fascinated when he looks at Ruyi.
Ruyi tells Ning Yuan Zhou about her childhood, how she was sold to the Zhu Yi Wei, and how she was investigating Empress Zhao Jie of Anguo. Her previous visit was actually to save the Empress. The Empress told Ruyi to live a comfortable life, so she escaped and reentered the Zhu Yi Wei. Ning Yuan Zhou assures Ruyi that he will help her uncover the truth about the Empress's death. Ruyi informs Ning Yuan Zhou that she will fulfill the Empress's request and asks him for a child of her own. Ning Yuan Zhou is taken aback and finds it strange that Ruyi would say it's a perfect situation. Ruyi feels that Ning Yuan Zhou is interested in her; otherwise, he wouldn't react this way. Ning Yuan Zhou thinks Ruyi has gone mad, and Ruyi splashes water on him, saying that he's not hot anymore.
