Episode 34 recap: Hai Tang Duo Duo has come to Jiangnan to protect Fan Xian.
Ming Qing Da is the head of the Ming family, but the one who really runs the household is his mother, Ming Lao Tai Tai. Ming Qing Da obeys his mother's orders, and if he is not careful, he will be punished by having needles stuck in his fingers. With great pain, Ming Qing Da swore an oath in front of his mother to quickly find the traitor within the family who is colluding with Li Cheng Ze. He is unwilling to hand over the three major districts that he has been operating for years to anyone else. He wants Fan Xian and Li Cheng Ze to fight each other, so that the Ming family can benefit from the conflict and firmly control the three major districts. Ming Lao Tai Tai is very satisfied, and finally agrees to let Ming Qing Da remove the needles from his fingers.
Li Cheng Ze sees Ming Qing Da's bloodied fingers and guesses that Ming Qing Da is not the true master of the household. Ming Qing Da agrees to cooperate with Li Cheng Ze to deal with Fan Xian. He must find one of his own brothers to take the blame, or else Fan Xian will not believe the bounty order. Li Cheng Ze tells Ming Qing Da to handle it, as he is worried that Emperor Qing will find out he came to Jiangnan secretly, so he has Xie Bi'an stay behind to support Ming Qing Da, and immediately rushes back to the capital.
Before leaving, Li Cheng Ze wants to kill Ming Lao Tai Tai for Ming Qing Da, so that he can truly be the head of the Ming family, but Ming Qing Da cannot bring himself to do it. Dozens of elderly refugees board small boats to attack Fan Xian's official ship, but Fan Xian not only doesn't hold it against them, he invites them aboard and feeds them a full meal. He learns that the Ming family has put out a bounty, and they risked their lives to raid the ship just to have a proper meal for their families. The Ming family has people monitoring their every move from the opposite shore, fully aware that this mission is a one-way trip, but they came without hesitation.
Fan Xian once again experiences the ruthlessness of the Ming family, and vows to completely overthrow them. He promises to send the refugees back to their hometowns, and they are deeply grateful to him. Today, Fan Xian's official ship reaches Suzhou. The Suzhou prefect hears that Fan Xian has collected many gifts along the way, so he brings all the officials to the dock to welcome him, all with lavish gifts prepared.
Ming Qing Da also comes to welcome Fan Xian. The officials from all the counties in Jiangnan are fans of Fan Xian, and they come to catch a glimpse of the renowned poet. As the official ship slowly docks, Fan Xian gets off with Li Chengping and the others, and records all the gifts presented by the officials as evidence. The officials in the Suzhou prefectural office are so scared that they hide the gifts they prepared behind their backs, not daring to present them.
Fan Xian also shows off the 130,000 taels of silver he brought from the capital. He plans to use the gold, silver and valuables gifted by the officials, as well as this 130,000 taels of silver, to send the refugees from the north back home. However, he does not trust the prefectural officials, so he has the officials from the various counties escort the refugees home instead.
Mr. Xu, the local historian of Fuchuan County, actively offered to send the disaster victims home. Fan Xian then learned that he was sent on the orders of Yang Wan Li to meet Fan Xian. Fan Xian was delighted to know that his disciple Yang Wan Li had become a county magistrate.
Fan Xian had the officials from the Suzhou府 bring out all the gifts, and he wanted to use the money to aid the disaster victims. The officials had no choice but to comply. Fan Xian declined the welcome banquet from the Suzhou知府, and asked them to go home. Ming Qing Da and Ming Lao Tai Tai came to apologize to Fan Xian and promised to find the person who issued the bounty before nightfall.
Fan Xian took Li Chengping out to eat, with Shi Chan Li accompanying them. Shi Chan Li was curious why Fan Xian had entrusted the disaster relief task to the officials, and Fan Xian explained that he wanted to give them a chance to perform well. Wang Qi Nian had already arranged the meal at the restaurant by the river. From the balcony, Fan Xian spotted a master-level fisherman by the river, whom he recognized as Yun Zhilan, the senior disciple of the Four Sides Sword. Wang Qi Nian urged Fan Xian to flee, as Yun Zhilan intended to kill him.
Just as Yun Zhilan was about to leave, Hai Tang Duo Duo forcefully pinned down his fishing rod with a basket. The two engaged in a fierce battle, creating huge waves that almost capsized the moored boats. Ying Zi suddenly leapt out of the water and joined the fight with Yun Zhilan, disappearing from sight. Hai Tang Duo Duo then joined Fan Xian and the others for the meal.
Li Chengping and Shi Chan Li assumed Hai Tang Duo Duo was invited by Fan Xian, but he was unaware of her arrival. Hai Tang Duo Duo came to give Fan Xian the "Heaven's One Dao" cultivation method, which she unexpectedly shared with him. In return, Fan Xian agreed to teach Hai Tang Duo Duo his powerful true qi cultivation.
