Episode 10 recap: Cherries are the real culprit of the murder.
Song Shi Jie went to the prison to visit Cherry and said that if Cherry is truly innocent of the murder, there is only one way to prove it. Song Shi Jie wanted to use a hypnotic technique using the sunset, and if Cherry wanted to prove her innocence, she had to listen carefully to Nian Shan Shan's instructions.
Cherry didn't resist and willingly agreed without any hesitation. Nian Shan Shan saw that Song Shi Jie and Cherry were about to enter and quickly blocked the door, saying that having too many people inside would affect the effectiveness of the hypnosis. He Shou Xin was a bit curious about how the three of them could be on one bed during the hypnosis. Nian Shan Shan brought Cherry a glass of water and asked Cherry to float in it, gently telling her not to be nervous and to lie down on the chair, breathe slowly, relax, inhale, exhale, and enter a deep state of hypnosis.
Song Shi Jie and He Shou Xin paced anxiously outside, worried about the outcome of the hypnosis. Nian Shan Shan told He Shou Xin that Cherry was innocent and that she might not have been the one who set the fire that night.
However, rumors were spreading outside, and they couldn't just let Cherry go like that. Song Shi Jie decided to find three important witnesses to prove Cherry's innocence. Song Shi Jie, Ling Long Xiao Feng, and Song A Jiu embarked on a thorough search, hoping to find favorable evidence.
Song A Jiu was eager to prove herself during this search. Ling Long suddenly noticed that Yang Liu had returned to pay respects to her daughter and son's graves. Song A Jiu felt that Yang Liu was feeling guilty and wanted to scare her by pretending to be a ghost. Song Shi Jie dressed up as a female ghost but accidentally got tangled in the ropes and couldn't fly. So he pretended to give up and approached Yang Liu's side, scaring her away.
Song Shi Jie felt that they hadn't found any favorable evidence yet, but he was convinced that Yang Liu was hiding an important secret and hadn't revealed it. And now, there was no immediate way to distinguish truth from falsehood. Ling Long suggested that they try hypnotizing Yang Liu with the same potion, as it might work.
Song Shi Jie and the others went to the restaurant owned by Yang Liu. Yang Liu told everyone that the dish she invented, although it tasted strange, was a way to commemorate her late wife and two children.
After getting Yang Liu drunk, everyone wanted to use hypnosis to extract the secrets from his mind. Nian Shan Shan told Song Shi Jie that no matter how much acupuncture or bloodletting they tried, they couldn't put him into a deep sleep, so they couldn't find out who the killer was.
Yang Liu was startled and quickly confessed that he had buried his wife and children in a dried-up well. He also mentioned that he had dreamt about them and consulted a Taoist priest, who said that he needed to place the bodies there for peace. Nian Shan Shan and the others found the bodies and performed an autopsy. Nian Shan Shan detected a scent on the deceased that resembled opium.
Song Shi Jie believed that it must have been caused by opium and immediately ordered He Shou Xin to investigate and find the people involved in opium trafficking. Ling Long wanted to ask Song Shi Jie what he had asked her during the last hypnosis session, but Song Shi Jie hurriedly left.
Song Shi Jie saw Ling Long waiting for him in the middle of the night, saying she wanted to cook noodles for him, and he felt touched. Song Shi Jie was now deeply immersed in a beautiful love affair and couldn't extricate himself. He went to find He Shou Xin, wanting to conduct an experiment using the remaining opium.
Just as He Shou Xin was about to cut the opium in half, his two companions had already left. Suddenly, he realized that he was the one being experimented on. Based on He Shou Xin's reaction, Song Shi Jie realized that the previous witnesses might have been under the influence of opium, causing visual confusion and making their statements unreliable.
Song Shi Jie understood the sequence of events. It turned out that the day before, Cherry had bought fireworks and secretly focused them using a lens. When nobody was paying attention, she ignited the fireworks, causing the death of Yang Liu's wife and children. Nian Shan Shan hypnotized Yang Liu once again, and he revealed that he had acted violently towards his wife due to his anger towards Cherry, but he had never intended to harm their children.
Yang Liu recalled his wife trying to stop him from using opium, which fueled his resentment.
