Episode 24 recap: The Vinegar King Pursues His Wife
Ling Zhi took out a dagger, intending to kill the Empress Dowager, but Mu Xuan Jue stopped her, saying he would not let her die so easily. The Empress Dowager schemed tirelessly, but in the end she still lost. Even so, she refused to admit defeat. She took out a dagger and committed suicide, which shocked both Mu Xuan Jue and Ling Zhi. Ling Zhi had been taking care of Mu Xuan Jue all along, and now Mu Xuan Jue embraced her. The two of them have finally let go of their past grievances and can be together freely.
With the Empress Dowager no longer controlling him, Mu Xuan Jue met with Huan Fei and Ling Zhi, and they are no longer enemies. They can even sit together and play chess. Huan Fei lost to Ling Zhi and refused to accept defeat, wanting to duel with her, but Mu Xuan Jue came and was worried Ling Zhi might get hurt.
Ling Zhi quickly reassured him that they are now friends, not enemies. Huan Fei also has to return to the Illusion Clan now, and he invites Ling Zhi to come visit, but Mu Xuan Jue is unwilling to let her go, as they have just reunited. Ling Zhi politely declines the offer, and decides it's time for her to return home.
Bing Jian notices Ling Zhi seems distracted and tells her she is free to leave the palace if she is unhappy. Seeing this, Mu Xuan Jue pretends to be unwell to prevent Ling Zhi from leaving, as his position is still not secure. Mu Xuan Jue takes Ling Zhi outside and sets off fireworks for her, hoping she will become his queen. To his surprise, Ling Zhi says she is willing to stay and accompany him, and Mu Xuan Jue excitedly kisses her.
