Episode 20 recap: Yin Ji and Xie Yun's Wedding

Yin Ji watched as Xie Yun, who had already changed into her wedding attire, walked out. Xie Yun and Yin Ji exchanged a glance, and Yin Ji took Xie Yun's hand as they were finally able to be together officially. Yin Ji's gaze never left Xie Yun as he led her by the hand, step by step, towards the Sutra Repository. Xie Yun's purpose was also to come to the Sutra Repository, and her brother was down below watching his sister's wedding.

Xie Yun and Yin Ji had arrived at the city tower, where they greeted the citizens of Baiyu Village, and then performed the wedding ceremony. The old lady took a brief look at Yin Ji and Xie Yun before leaving with her maid. Xie Yun secretly thought that the time had finally come to prove the innocence of the Xie family.

At that moment, a group of soldiers, who had been lying in ambush, released flaming arrows towards the tower. Yin Ji woke up dazed and started searching for Xie Yun, with Qi Yan protecting Yin Ji. Qi Yan told Yin Ji that Yin Qi had staged a rebellion and urged Yin Ji to quickly leave. Yin Ji was still trying to find Xie Yun, and upon learning that Xie Yun was in the Sutra Repository, rushed there. Xie Yun had obtained the letter that proved the innocence of the Xie family.

Xie Yun held a dagger towards Yin Ji. Yin Ji suddenly realized that Xie Yun had never actually lost her memory, and that everything had been an act. Xie Yun was extremely emotional, as the Xie family had protected Yin Ji and helped her ascend to the position of the city lord, but Yin Ji had in turn plotted to eliminate the Xie family.

Yin Ji wanted to explain herself, but at that moment, arrows were shot into the Sutra Repository, and the entire building was quickly engulfed in flames.

Yin Ji wanted to leave with Xie Yun, but Xie Yun felt that Yin Ji's very existence made her sick. Yin Ji smiled slightly, acknowledging that she indeed deserved to die.

Yin Ji then took the dagger from Xie Yun's hand and plunged it into herself. Xie Yun did not expect Yin Ji to make such a decision. At that moment, a ceiling beam suddenly collapsed, separating Xie Yun and Yin Ji. The main gate had been locked by the old lady's maid, and it took great effort from the butler to open it.

The old lady was very pleased with her son's actions this time, and orders had been given throughout the city to apprehend Yin Ji. To demonstrate the new city lord's compassion for the common people, food and clothing were specially provided to them. This further improved the people's view of Yin Qi. The butler could no longer show his face in public, afraid of being recognized.

The butler suddenly saw a beggar holding the same pendant that Xie Yun had once given to Yin Ji. He tried to snatch it away, but ended up being severely beaten, coughing up blood. To avoid being identified, he quickly left, wearing a straw hat.

During this time, Yin Ji stopped eating and drinking, and her eyesight had also deteriorated. She believed that Xie Yun had certainly died, and was utterly dejected. The old butler had rushed to try and rescue Yin Ji, but with the raging fire, he was unable to save Xie Yun, leaving Yin Ji to watch helplessly as the flames engulfed her.
